Melina’s Style Gallery
About Melina
Melina came to me with tons of color in her wardrobe—from all across the rainbow—but not a lot of confidence in which colors looked best. She was drawn to dramatic shades, but sometimes struggled to pair together and actually enjoy her expansive closet.
After discovering she was a Light Summer, things fell into place. Melina’s love for exuberant color makes total sense, as her palette is particularly splashy and playful—and now she knows how to pair these tones in a cohesive, beautiful manner!
Melina’s Style Goals & NEEDS
Melina is already comfortable shopping and trying on a multitude of different silhouettes and colors. She is also a talented crafter and has crocheted and sewn many pieces for her own wardrobe. She always needs her pieces to be a little special—she doesn’t like to look like everyone else and she loves to mix eras and silhouettes.
My Styling suggestions
I proposed Melina embrace a “mermaid mindset” with regards to picking Light Summer pieces, as the mental image evokes the kind of shimmering, aquatic, and semi-tropical tones that fill her palette. She loved the mermaid cue and immediately started shopping for fabrics with a little glitz and luster, as well as pieces incorporating beach themes like shells, pearls, and linen.
Light Summers—and Melina is no exception—have a wonderful ability to wear casual pieces like jean jackets and sneakers while still looking delicate and ethereal. While Light Summers often look very naturalistic and free, it’s not in a rough or rustic way. And while Melina loves bohemian influences, I pointed her to some jewelry and shapes which skew more elfin than hippie.
The tones that she could recognize immediately included most of the aquas and teals of her palette. She needed a little practice comparing neutrals and pinks to understand how they fit into her universe, but once she did, she was totally comfortable pairing a range of purples, yellows, and pinks with her neutrals and blues.
